The World War II Memorial was dedicated in 2004 for a generation whose youngest member is in their late seventies, so many of the men and women who fought and sacrificed for our country have not had an opportunity, or ability, to visit. 
Catawba County Particpant in the Nov 2008 Fall Honor Air Flight
HonorAir has created an opportunity for so many veterans who, because of physical or financial limitations, may otherwise never see the memorial.
Mission:
To send Catawba County WWII Veterans on Honor Air flights to see their memorial in Washington DC at no cost to them.
When & Where:
Currently the RC of Catawba Valley has committed to sending 6 WWII Veterans on the November 1st 2008 Rotary District 7670 Cooperative Honor Air Flight. This flight will be from the Asheville Airport.
Flights for the Fall of 2009 have been completed and we hope to send others from Catawba County on potential 2010 flights. The number sent will be based on the amount of donations and support that are available. In order to be considered for either of these flights Appicants must fill out an application and fax or mail it in for the Committee to review.

Our first group of WWII Veterans from Catawba County have flown and returned from their Honor Air Trip on November 1st. 6 of Catawba County's WWII Veterans were selected from a group of applicants to make the first trip along with nearly 100 other WWII Veterans in Western NC, many of which came from Catawba, Lincoln and Burke counties.

The flights for the fall of 2009 have been confirmed and completed at this time. (one to be done Oct 31st). Please check back for future scheduled flights. If you are interested please download an application and we will submit your name and work on funding for a future flight. (possibly Spring 2010)
